PlusBus Explained: Add Unlimited Town Buses to Your Rail Ticket (2026)
🚆 PlusBus is a day ticket for town buses that you buy as an add-on to a rail ticket: for one combined price you get your train journey plus unlimited bus travel in the town around your destination station for the day. In BusUpdate’s Ring 1 area it is confirmed for Peterborough, Cambridge, Cambridge North, Ely and Norwich.
🧭 How PlusBus Works
- Buy it with your rail ticket — at the station, from the conductor, or in rail ticket apps: choose the PlusBus add-on for your destination town when you buy.
- One day, unlimited buses: the add-on is valid for the day of travel on the participating town bus network.
- Show it on the bus: your rail ticket with the PlusBus endorsement is your bus ticket — show it to the driver when boarding.
- Price varies by town: each station’s PlusBus has its own add-on price set locally — the booking flow shows it before you pay.
🗺️ PlusBus in Ring 1 Towns
- Peterborough: covers the city bus network from the station — Stagecoach Citi routes and Central Connect’s 23–26A across the townships. See Peterborough bus routes.
- Cambridge & Cambridge North: covers Stagecoach and Whippet urban services — and explicitly includes the Guided Busway within the Cambridge zone.
- Ely: covers the town’s buses from Ely station — handy for the A2B and Dews services around the city. See buses in Ely.
- Norwich: covers the city network including the Park & Ride operators’ city services.
💷 PlusBus vs the Fare Cap
Singles are already capped (£3, falling to £2 from January 2027 — see the fare cap guide). PlusBus wins when you will make three or more bus journeys in the town in one day, or when your first bus is a longer in-town ride: one add-on replaces every single. For a single short hop from the station, a capped single is usually cheaper.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Can I buy PlusBus on the bus?
No — it is sold only as part of a rail ticket (station, conductor or rail app) before or when you buy the train ticket.
Does PlusBus work on any bus in town?
It works on the participating operators’ town services within the PlusBus zone for that station; long-distance coaches and services leaving the zone are excluded.
Can I use PlusBus on a different day from my train journey?
The add-on is tied to the rail ticket’s validity — for a day return it covers that day; with longer-validity rail tickets, PlusBus can be bought for the matching days at the time of purchase.
